Both students and teachers are lifelong learners. Online research skills and critical writing are important for students throughout school and future career. It is difficult for young students to focus on the credibility of sources they use. Thus, I created two flipboards to share learning resources with future students and educators.
The flipboard for educators consists of articles that can help (future) educators build genuine partnerships with parents. It is important for teachers to empower parents to engage in this partnership and to respect all the knowledge parents have about their children in order to better cater for and support students.
The flipboard for students is a collection of articles which raise awareness about gender identities and sexual orientation. This can help increase understanding and help students establish their own gender identity.
A 16 year old friend of mine are counting down the days until they finally graduate. They are not respected in their gender identity (non-binary) by most of their teachers and peers. It became their responsibility to educate their teachers and peers because this was not a topic to talk about in class. Raising this awareness helped others get the courage to speak up about their gender identity. Still different gender identities and sexual orientations are a taboo topic in their school which is causing them to be bullied and discriminated. Teachers should help create an environment that respects and celebrates all differences in gender identities and sexual orientation. I believe that providing students with resources and articles like in this flipboard, can help create a more inclusive school culture.
