Digital Storytelling Video – Social Exclusion

For this class assignment we were asked to create short digital stories which can be applied in the classroom.


We chose to create a story that raises awareness to students about social exclusion.

Important to us was to demonstrate that what we assume a person feels might differ from what the person actually feels.

We often judge behaviour that doesn’t conform to general social norms and overlook their struggles and their desire for social interactions.

We would present this book in order to help prevent bullying and increase empathy in students.


After sharing the book, we would engage the students in discussions about the story.

The following leading questions will be used to stimulate this discussion:

  • How do you think Charlie felt?

  • What would help Charlie feel more comfortable in the class?

  • How did the students feel about Charlie, compared to how he felt?
